Legislation The Rules
S.I.A. Accreditation

April 2015 saw proposals from the Home Office to introduce new licensing regulations for all private investigation firms based in the UK. The SIA (Security Industry Authority) would take over the management and enforcement of amendments to the Private Security Act 2001.
Anyone conducting any investigation in order to obtain information about a specific person their location, personal activities or activities would require an SIA licence.
This will apply to directors, employers, managers etc.
The act will not enforce licensing for, Solicitors, Accountants, Journalists and broadcasters. Any activities engaged in market research. Accessing any publicly available registers for reference purposes. Any investigation carried out with the explicit consent of the subject in question.
